Disney World 2024 Refurbishment Update

Ride maintenance can be difficult due to the wear and tear; so often times, Disney will set aside time where they can work on a particular ride. In 2024, several rides and attractions at Walt Disney World will undergo refurbishments or be temporarily closed. Some have already reopened and some do not have definitive dates. However, there are quite a few to make note of. One of the biggest ones that guests should be aware of is Test Track later this year, but there will be information later on. Here are the key updates for the Disney World 2024 Refurbishment schedule:

Magic Kingdom:

  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: Splash Mountain Closed since January 2023 for a transformation into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Which will now be opening on June 28th, 2024 and we now are getting glimpses into the ride and merchandise
  • Country Bear Jamboree: Closing on January 27, 2024, with a reopening scheduled for Summer 2024 featuring a new musical show including new songs.
  • Hall Of Presidents: closed June 9th – 10th,2024

EPCOT:

  • Test Track: Closing on June 17, 2024, for a reimagining, with no set reopening date yet. This will likely be a big overhaul and would be surprising to reopen before the beginning of 2025. It could easily be up to a year for updates to be completed.
  • American Heritage Gallery: Closed from May 28 to June 7, 2024
  • Reflections of China: Closing on June 13, 2024, which appears to be a single-day closure. There had been a discussion of a Circle Vision movie update discussed in 2019 but this has not occurred yet and likely not in the near future.
  • Communicore Hall & Plaza opens on June 10th, 2024

Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith: Closed for refurbishment from January 8 to July 27, 2024. This is unlikely to be a retheme as had been rumored. So for the time being, Aerosmith is safe.
  • Voyage of the Little Mermaid: No confirmed reopening date announced as of now, but likely Fall of 2024. Not much has been released for this.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom:

  • Kali River Rapids: Closed from January 8 to March 15, 2024
  • Dinosaur: Closing date is TBD. However, the current prediction is late 2024. This is part of the redesign of the Dinoland area.
  • Its Tough To Be a Bug: This will be replaced by Zootopia Tree of Life show later on in 2024.

Disney World 2024 Refurbishment for Disney Resorts:

  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort: Undergoing renovations for new Disney Vacation Club Villas and other amenities, expected to be completed by late 2024.
  • Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground: Cabins being renovated and integrated into Disney Vacation Club, with work ongoing until July 1, 2024
  • Several Pools: Various pools across resorts, including those at Caribbean Beach, Doubloon Lagoon, and Fantasia Pool, will be closed from January to March/April 2024.

These closures and refurbishments are part of Disney’s ongoing efforts to enhance and update its attractions and facilities. Moreover, there are some that are overdue for a little TLC. If you’re planning a visit, it’s advisable to check for the latest updates and any potential impacts on your itinerary. Disney has a place where you can double check refurbishments before your vacation. These can change at any time but Disney usually tries to put the information out in advance.
