There are a couple of exemptions to this price increase. There are complimentary standard parking at the Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness which provides 1 parking space. The other exemption is for DVC (Disney Vacation Club) member or those that are renting DVC points. This is due to the parking fees being included in part with the maintenance fees. As of now, there are no parking fees with the use of ride services such as Lyft or Uber. We have used during our last few trips and have not encountered any fees. This may change in the future but would be difficult to enforce due to the use of Disney’s Minnie Van service.
You should always be monitoring the app for your room charges which on occasion has added random charges, such as parking. If this were to occur, you can go to the front desk and have the fee removed. This can be done quickly but is a hassle.
This parking fee increase came as a surprise to many due to them being a new fee in general. Parking fees for overnight resort guests were added last year. Prior to this, parking was free as a “perk” for staying on Disney property. As you can imagine this came with a lot of backlash by most. This doesn’t seem like much for parking fees but if you stay for 7 nights, this is over $100 that was not previously taken into consideration. For many, this simple increase prices them out of their Disney vacation. This will likely do the same and more so at this point with the increase in other prices.
Disney has a significant backlash on social media due to the increase in the various fees, including the parking due to it being increased within a year of being started. It isn’t a huge jump but does give the feel of being nickeled and dimed for everything. It will be interesting to see what changes will occur in the future and how much of a public backlash there will be for these changes. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
