Runaway Railway setback? WDW park news

Hollywood Studios is going through a lot of change at the moment, which all started within the past 2 years. First, was the announcement of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the second was the new Mickey ride coming. In November 2018, it was announced that Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway would be replacing The Great Movie Ride. This is the ride that is in the Chinese theatre looking building towards the center of the park. Between all the changes coming to Hollywood Studios, it has been an ambitious endeavor. So the big question is if Runaway Railway setback coming?

What about the timeline?

It was rumored recently that Runaway Railway setback was happening and the opening would be delayed. Disney has confirmed within the past week that Runaway Railway in Disney World was being pushed back to early 2020 instead of Fall of 2019. This is not a major set back but may change guests plans later this fall. The initial goal was to have it completed for Hollywood Studios 30th-anniversary celebration. It was also announced that Runaway Railway at Disneyland will be completed in 2022. This is likely due to the time constraints of Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and Disney World. For both parks, Galaxy’s Edge opening date was moved up.

What will Runaway Railway be like?

There is not much that has been released in regards to the ride itself. But what we know so far is that it will drop guests into the middle of the movie screen with our old pals, Mickey and friends. Guests will have a front-row seat inside of a Mickey Mouse cartoon short where anything can happen. Goofy will be your engineer as you board your train, so we can only guess what craziness will ensue. The ride will use state of the art technology to great an “immersive multi-dimensional experience”. This should provide incredible visual effects. It will be great to see a Mickey Mouse inspired ride back within Walt Disney World. This looks to be a fun ride once it opens in 2020 and 2022.
