If you are like me then you binged the Mandalorian on Disney Plus as soon as each episode came out! This is a great series and the best part is that you don’t need to know a lot about Star Wars to enjoy it. It is a unique spin blending a sci-fi aspect into an old school western. Most of all, who doesn’t love Baby Yoda (not really Yoda)! But what most people that have watched the show are now waiting to know when the Mandalorian season 2 comes out. The second season was already being written before the first season aired but we have started to slowly get more details.

It has officially been confirmed the release date for the first episode of The Mandalorian season 2! The announcement came earlier today that you can catch the first episode on October 30th, 2020! Update January 6, 2020
It appears that we have a newer time frame for season 2 of The Mandalorian. There are several sources reporting that it will premier in October. This is a month earlier than previously expected. We have also heard hints that there may be a spinoff or two but the details for this have not been released.
Possible spoilers
If you haven’t finished watching The Mandalorian season 1, I would recommend finishing before reading the article. The article is free of major spoilers but may provide smaller spoilers.
When is Season 2 coming out?
Although we don’t have specifics, we do know that the season will be out in the Fall of 2020. This was announced after the final episode of season 1 aired by the incredible director, Jon Favreau. This came out in a series of social media posts that have spurred speculation about the upcoming season. The first of the Instagram post showed the Mandalorians helmet with the caption of “Greetings from the set of The Mandalorian season 2” Secondly, he tweeted out a picture of the pig guards (Gamorrean), which is known for being from Jabba’s place with the caption “Season 2 of the Mandalorian coming Fall 2020”
Theories of Season 2
Older characters coming to to the show
One of the biggest rumors out there for season 2 of The Mandalorian is that it will include some of the characters from the original Star Wars trilogy. This would help bridge the story from the Mandalorian and connect it back to its Star Wars route. It is unclear whether these will be big-name characters or whether smaller characters. However, it is likely that they will be a nod towards the original trilogy.
We will likely see a Gamorrean as tweeted by Favreau but to what extent is purely speculation. There are several characters that are unlikely to make an appearance, such as Jabba the Hutt who had died earlier in the franchise. For those that haven’t watched all, if any, of the Star Wars movies, then season 2 will likely provide some backstory. This seems like it will be more connected to the original stories but not clear how much.
Presenting the Dark saber
During the Mandalorian, we see a blade that sounded like a lightsaber but looked different which was wielded by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). This looked a lot like the Darksaber which made an appearance in Star Wars” The Clone Wars. We may see more in the Mandalorian Season 2 about how Moff came to possess such a weapon. The Darksaber is a part of Mandalorian lore and was wielded by the first Mandalorian to join the Jedi Order. It is unclear how Moff obtained such a legendary weapon, which could be answered in the upcoming season. The saber could play a bigger role in the story in the upcoming season or future seasons. This would be due to its connection to Mandalorian lore.
And of course, the most likely theory about season 2 of The Mandalorian is that we will get a little more of Baby Yoda’s backstory and maybe some in regards to the race’s history/origin. I don’t think anyone involved in this series realized how popular Baby Yoda would be. This may have contributed to a lot of success but the story is solid overall.
