Magic at Home – Mickey Pretzel recipe

One of the most iconic snacks at Disney World is the Mickey pretzel! There is something about a mickey shaped pretzel that makes it seem so much better. Here is a Mickey pretzel recipe that you can make at home. These are perfect with mustard, cheese spread or, my personal favorite, honey mustard. This recipe makes 16 good size pretzels, which you could make smaller if just looking for a simple pretzel. But if you wanted to go fancier, you could try shaping the actual mickey shape into the pretzel dough but for time and effort, these are great. I can easily picture myself kicking back with one of these while reminiscing of walking through Magic Kingdom. This is a great way to bring the magic home similar to the Oooey Gooey toffee cake!

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups warm water
  • 1.5 Tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 ounces butter, melted
  • 2/3 cups baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Sea Salt, to sprinkle on top
  • Optional: 1/2 cup rainbow sprinkles + a bit more for sprinkling on top

Directions

Part 1

Start by mixing water, sugar, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Add the yeast on top and let sit for around 5 minutes, or until the mixture starts to foam

After it foams, slowly add butter and flour while mixing on low speed.

If you want to add sprinkles, add them now.

Continue to mix on medium for 5 minutes or until the dough is smooth and begins to pull away from the side of the bowl.

Remove the dough from the bowl and clean the bowl. Spray the sides with oil and put the dough in the bowl. Cover the bowl with a tea towel. It will need to sit for about 50-55 minutes in a warm area, or until the doughs size doubles.

Part 2

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Using parchment paper, line the baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with oil. If not using parchment paper, still spray with oil

In a medium pot, add at least 4 cups of water and baking soda and bring to a rolling boil.

Turn the dough out onto a slightly oiled surface. Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces and roll each piece into a 12-inch rope. Look the rope to form a circle in the middle with 1.5-2 inches of dough on each end sticking out. Take the dough ends and roll them into smaller circles to form the mickey ears. Place completed onto baking sheets.

With the water at a rolling boil, using tongs to hold pretzels under the boiling water for about 15 seconds. Return them to the baking sheet and using the beaten egg, brush the tops of the pretzels. Add sprinkles or salt to the top

Put them into the oven for about 10-14 minutes, bake until they start turning dark golden brown.

Allow them to cook for about 5 minutes before serving by transferring to a cooling rack

Enjoy!
