Gastons Tavern Cinnamon Roll Recipe

 If you have been to Disney World, you likely have heard of the famous cinnamon rolls. Strolling through Fantasyland and Gaston’s Tavern is a must-stop for a snack. Now we have Gastons tavern cinnamon roll recipe is inspired by the delicious snack available at Magic Kingdom! This is the closest recipe that I have found that tastes like the real thing in the parks. The cinnamon rolls are a very heavy snack that is sure to please everyone! It makes for a great breakfast or snack on special occasions! If you are looking for something Beauty and the Beast inspired to bake, look no further! 

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 1/2 Cups Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Butter
  • 2 0.25oz Packets Rapid Rise Yeast 
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup water
  • 6 1/2 Cups All-Purpose Flour which will be divided
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1/4 Cup Melted Butter

Filling

  • 1 Cup Butter Softened
  • 2 Cups Brown Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Cinnamon

Cream Cheese icing

  • ¾ of 8 oz  Cream Cheese package
  • 1/4 Cup Butter
  • 2 Cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 3 Tablespoons heavy whipping cream

Butterscotch Topping

  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1/2 Cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla

Starting with the dough

Melt the ½ cup of butter and add to bowl with milk

Add the 2.5 cups of flour, 2 packages of yeast, ½ cup of sugar and slowly mix together. 

Add in your 2 eggs and ½ cup of water and continue to mix the dough

As it starts to form, slowly add in more flour about ¼ to ½ cup at a time. 

The dough should start forming into a ball

Using either a mixer or by hand, knead the dough for about 5 minutes

Remove the dough from the mixing bowl,  add a little flour and put the ball of dough into the bowl to rise for about 10 minutes

Making the filling

Soften the 1 cup of butter and pour it into another mixing bowl, add 3 tablespoons of Cinnamon, and 2 cups of brown sugar.

Mix this together until it becomes almost the consistency of thick icing, it should still be spreadable. 

Finishing the rolls

Take the ball of dough and, on a floured countertop, start rolling the dough out

This should be done lengthwise and narrower sides in a rectangle shape. Ours ended up being close to 2 feet long. 

Now spread the filling across the top of the dough – try to spread as evenly as possible 

Now at the end closest to you, roll the dough lengthwise on itself to make the actual cinnamon rolls.

Cut the dough into sections about 4 inches wide. You can make them wider but these will expand further as well. 

Put the rolls in a 9”x13” pan that has been greased. 

Taking ¼ cup of butter, melt it and drizzle over the cinnamon rolls. Then allow them to rise for 30 minutes before baking

Preheat the oven to 375 Fahrenheit and

Bake for 20 minutes, remove from oven and cover with tin foil and put back in the oven for another 10-15 minutes until they start browning up. The foil should be loose over the dough.

Time for the topping

You will need 2 saucepans

First, start with the cream cheese icing

In saucepan 1- add in ¼ cup of butter, 3 Tablespoons of heavy whipping cream, and ¾ package of cream cheese

Slowly add in 2 cups of powder sugar; once dissolved, add in the vanilla and mix

This icing will be more granular rather than smooth

In saucepan 2- Add in the ½ cup of whipping cream, 4 tablespoons of butter, and mix. 

When melted, add in the ½ cup of brown sugar and continue stirring

After it is thoroughly mixed, turn up the heat and let boil for 5 minutes with frequent stirring

Remove from heat and set aside after it has finished boiling. After it has cooled, add 1 tablespoon of vanilla and mix

Final touches

When the rolls are done cooking, remove the tin foil and let cool for about 2-3 minutes

Then pour the cream cheese icing over the rolls

After, slowly drizzle the butterscotch icing over the rolls
