Frontierland Shootin Arcade at Magic Kingdom Closing

Beyond the opening of Tianas Bayou Adventrue, there are more changes coming to Frontierland. However, with this one, it is likely going to be less impactful. The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is set to close permanently on June 23, 2024. Which will make way for a new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Member Lounge. This closure marks the end of an era for the beloved attraction, which has been a fixture in Frontierland since the park’s opening in 1971.

When was the closure for Frontierland Shootin Arcade announced?

In January 2024, Disney revealed plans for the construction of a new DVC Member Lounge at Walt Disney World, though the specific location was not initially disclosed. According to Disney, this lounge will offer a space for members to relax and recharge during their visit, enhancing their overall park experience.

The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade has provided guests with an immersive Wild West-themed shooting gallery for over five decades. The attraction features more than 90 interactive targets that trigger various animated effects when hit. Visitors use replica rifles to aim at targets such as bottles, tombstones, and animals, all set within a detailed Old West environment. Initially operating on a pay-per-play basis, the arcade has since become a complimentary experience for guests. Although, the location was rarely busy compared to the rest of the park.

Speculation about the arcade’s closure first arose in 2021 when its operating hours were removed from the calendar, and it transitioned to free-play mode. However, the arcade continued to function, alleviating concerns at the time.

What other changes are occurring in Frontierland?

The closure of the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade is part of a broader transformation within Frontierland. This summer will see the debut of the new Country Bears Musical Jamboree. More importantly, although already mentioned, the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Moreover, there are rumors of a re-theme for Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. The rumor is the potential to integrate elements from “The Princess and the Frog”. However, there has been nothing to confirm that yet.

Disney has indicated that these changes are part of a significant investment in the theme parks, with more updates and enhancements planned for the future. A recent post on Disney’s official blog teased further developments, stating, “Hold your horses, we’re not done yet. We have a lot of growth and investment planned for our theme parks in the coming years and look forward to sharing more announcements about Frontierland … so y’all come back now, ya hear?”

The new DVC Member Lounge is anticipated to provide a welcome retreat for club members. Which will feature comfortable seating and amenities to help guests unwind amid their day of park activities. This addition is part of Disney’s ongoing efforts to enhance guest experiences and offer exclusive benefits to its DVC members.
