Disney Mask Photo Policy Update for April!

Major Mask-related news has come out for Disney! Since reopening in July 2020, masks have been required for a majority of the time while on the parks. The only exception was when actively eating and drinking. The new Disney mask photo policy change will make a lot of people happy. This was a significant change to how the rules have been enforced so far.

New mask update

Previously, Disney had double down on their mask rules to make them stricter. This included having to stop to eat or drink rather than walking around or having to wear a mask while waiting for food while sitting. However, now you will be able to take down your mask when taking a picture. This will start immediately.

Now when you want to take a Photopass picture, you’ll be able to go maskless, or at least with it pulled down.  This was changed as of April 8th, 2021. It is important to note that this only applies when you are outdoors and when you are stationary. It doesn’t allow you to use taking photos or videos as a reason to not keep your mask up. “You may temporarily remove your face covering while actively eating, drinking or taking an outdoor photo, but you must be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing during this time.” Per Disney website. All other mask-related guidelines remain in place.

Why does this a big update?

This is important for two reasons. First, it is the pinnacle of any trip to have your photo taken in front of the castle. This will make the trip more memorable if you do not have to keep your mask up. Moreover, this increases the value of the Photopass as you can see everyone’s face in the pictures. And second, this is a big change because it will not be the same when Disneyland opens. This is not surprising due to Disneyland will be reopening soon and will take time before they start to relax some of their guidelines. Part of the restrictions is also based on state guidelines which may come into play later on.
