Cosmic Rewind Opening Date Revealed!

The galaxy is making its way to Epcot and not the way that you think. Guardians of the Galaxy will be landing later this year to save the world. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be the first Marvel-inspired ride at any of the Walt Disney World parks in Florida. This is cause for excitement as this will bring a much-needed attraction to the park. Cosmic Rewind is the first because of licensing issues between Disney and Universal Studios.  And now, we finally have a Cosmic Rewind opening date!

When will Cosmic Rewind open?

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will debut at Epcot on Memorial Day Weekend 2022, according to Walt Disney World. The official start date will be May 27th, 2022. It will be a great way to start off the summer!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a “storytelling” roller coaster, which means it will likely be a light thrill ride with show scenes. Similar would be Escape from Gringotts at Universal Studios. It is reported to be a family-friendly attraction, according to Walt Disney World, but a height requirement will still apply. The official height requirement will be released later on.

Make your park reservations

Since a high-ranking Disney executive let slip a little too much information via social media during a test ride last month, the Memorial Day weekend opening should not come as a surprise. But at least now there is confirmation for the opening date.

Memorial Day is traditionally the start of Disney’s summer season, with many Florida schools starting summer vacation at the end of May. This will be a major release and could bring in an incredible number of guests. So if you are planning on going, make sure to get your reservation ahead of time.

Some delay but finally debuting

The original plan was for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind’ to open in Spring 2021, just in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th-anniversary celebrations. A couple of reasons are likely behind the delay in construction. First was COVID-19 shutdown and then subsequent cost-cutting measures enforced by Disney, but it will now serve as Disney’s main attraction for the summer and the rest of 2022. With all that we have heard about it, it will be worth the wait. There will be a lot going for Cosmic Rewind and should be an incredibly popular ride.

Who will see it first?

Despite the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind will not debut until May 27, 2022, we can expect some early previews for particular groups of visitors. Disney has not provided details on this. However, it is likely given the past experiences at Disney World.

We can expect previews for Club 33 and D23 members, Cast Members, and Annual Passholders if previews mirror the recent debut of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT. It does seem as though random soft openings for local guests appear to be a thing of the past. Disney appears to prefer to use the soft opening period to boost membership offers for those limited groups.

What is the back story for Cosmic Rewind?

The Wonders of Xandar pavilion was built by andarians, who went from their homeworld in the Andromeda galaxy to Earth – or Terra, as they call it. This was to educate EPCOT guests about their culture and superior technologies. At least until the Guardians arrive and the adventure begins…

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will feature several more “firsts,” in addition to the Wonders of Xandar pavilion.EPCOT’s first roller coaster along with the first reverse launch coaster. Cosmic rewind will be the world’s longest fully enclosed coaster. Moreover, The coaster is in one of the largest display structures ever built for Disney.

We will put out another article with the expectations and assumptions for Cosmic Rewind later on. Are you excited about the Cosmic Rewind opening date? Let us know in the comments below!
