There were a lot of new announcements from this years D23 event in California. One of the more controversial, loosely speaking, was the news that Cars heading to Magic Kingdom. Cars has been a successful Pixar franchise with only a few references at Walt Disney World. Initially, there were a lot of questions about how it would be brought into the park. The concern was where they were going to put the new area. But Disney has released more information in regard to this and how big of an expansion this will be.
What do we know about Cars heading to Magic Kingdom?
At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced exciting updates for Walt Disney World. Frontierland is set to expand with a new area themed around Pixar’s “Cars,”. Where guests will leave Radiator Springs to explore rugged new terrains featuring a thrilling rally race. However, The Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be transformed to accommodate this new adventure.
What did imagineering say about Cars at Magic Kingdom?
Michael Hundgen from Walt Disney Imagineering emphasized the excitement of creating this Cars-themed experience and the importance of crafting stories that resonate with visitors. The new area will include a high-energy rally race and a family-friendly attraction. “We are thrilled to create this original Cars adventure and put our guests in the driver’s seat as we—quite literally—explore a new frontier in Frontierland,” shared Michael Hundgen. Michael Hundgen is the Walt Disney World Portfolio Executive Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering. “Part of pioneering this new story includes tapping into the themes of exploration and adventure that inspire so many of us to keep propelling forward. Anytime we touch Magic Kingdom, we recognize the massive responsibility that exists to get it right and tell stories that connect with our guests.”
For some guests, it is a question if that is the best location for cars. This is due to there already Lightning Mcqueen’s Racing Academy at Hollywood Studios. However, Time will tell on how much is fully incorporated into the area. Frontierland already had a new update early this year when Tianas Bayou Adventure opened.
